He's done it. After five Grand Slam finals and four years of heartbreak and pain, Andy Murray, the man who many said would never win a major championship, has beaten Novak Djokovic at the US Open final in New York City. The match was a titanic battle, lasting five sets and nearly five hours as every point mattered. Eventually, however, after winning the first two sets and losing the following two, Murray served for the championship and became the first British man to win a Grand Slam in 76 years. It was in fact 76 years to the day since Fred Perry won his last major final, also at the US Open. The man himself said, after the match: "I am just so relieved to finally have got there and I can put this one behind me and hopefully win more," he continued, "I think just proving it to myself is probably the most pleasing part about tonight, because there were times when I didn't know if I was going to be able to do it." So, what does Andy Murray's glorious victory have to do with kilts? Maybe not a huge amount apart from the fact that Murray is a born and bred Scot. However, his US Open Final was a perfect opportunity for any Andy fan to show his allegiance by wearing a kilt. According to the rapidly updated Twitter during the match, several fans did turn up to the Arthur Ashe stadium in their tartan finery. Kilts have become increasingly popular at football and rugby matches, so why not buy one for a trip to the Australian Open in Melbourne to watch Murray in his next battle for more Grand Slam glory? Or take one on a relaxing trip to Paris, to watch him play in the fortress that is Roland Garros? Even better, head on down to SW19 with a good quality, washable kilt so you can remove the inevitable champagne and strawberry stains when Andy wins the Wimbledon final. The Scotland Kilt Company offers a lovely range of polyviscose kilts, which have recently been reduced from £49.99 to £43.99. These kilts are fully washable (for those champagne stains) and come in a number of popular tartans. Check them out on our website.
