Kilt yourself out to walk and support Scotland’s most vulnerable children
It’s that time of year again when we’re getting ready for The Kiltwalk season - six charity events run at various cities across the country aimed at supporting Scotland’s most disadvantaged children.
The first event of this year kicked off last weekend in Glasgow and will be followed by the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on the 3rd May. The Edinburgh route will take walkers through the historic sites of the city, including the Silverknowes Esplanade, along Portobello Esplanade and through Holyrood Park. The event series finishes off in the autumn on the 20th September in Dundee.
The Kiltwalk charity organises fun, sponsored walks to raise funds for many grassroots children’s charities across Scotland. The only rule is that everyone taking part in the walks has to wear a kilt. And the more flamboyant and unique the better! Participants have the option of walking a full 26-mile marathon, the 13-mile Half Walk or the 6-mile Wee Walk.
Last year the charity dished out £1.2 million to help 165 projects across Scotland, including: Friends of Loch Lomand and the Trossachs, which helps disadvantaged youngsters develop life skills and opportunities through gardening; and the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, which supports children with serious illnesses through areas such as the purchase of new hospital equipment.
For 2015, there are seventeen charity partners across the six events, including Yorkhill Children’s charity and CHAS – Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.
So, are you joining in the fun and taking part in any of this year’s events?
If you are, pop along to our store at 93-95 Southbridge Street or our warehouse found at Unit 1, Bonnington Business Centre, 106 Jane Street and get kilted out!
To show our support for the event and all those taking part, we’re giving 10% off all kilts purchased for The Kiltwalk and have set up a dedicated section on our website with all our favourites. Just visit www.thescotlandkiltcompany.co.uk/kilt-walk-favourites
For the ladies we recommend one of our pretty Billie Kilts in a choice of vibrant colours, ranging from the blue-purple Pride of Scotland tartan to the classic red Royal Stewart tartan. Flattering, comfortable and made from 100% pure wool, it will keep you snug and toasty worn with long socks and boots for the walk.
For the gents, we suggest one of our colourful, 5 Yard Casual Kilts. Light, comfortable and affordable it’s a good choice for wearing on one of the Kiltwalks. We particularly like the Heritage of Scotland or Royal Stewart tartans for a dash of bright colour.
To all those taking part in any of the walks this year, we wish you good luck! Feel free to contact us on 0131 553 3472 if you’d like more advice.
