Harris Tweed is, of course, tweed fabric handwoven by islanders in the Outer Hebrides, in Scotland. This material is woven from virgin wool dyed and sourced from this Scottish island. The making of Harris Tweed fabric is deemed so valuable, quality standards and protection of the Harris Tweed name are enshrined in the Harris Tweed Act 1993. Originally woven by crofters, this cloth was woven for personal and practical uses and was ideal protection against the famously cold climate of northern Scotland. By the end of the 18th century, the creation of wool yarn became a staple in the garment industry. The fabric was exported off the Scottish Islands and became widely popular worldwide. This led to the production of these beautiful hats that we can provide today!
