Ghillie Brogues
Brogues were traditionally an outdoor shoe worn by people in the country, but have become an appropriate part of any formal dress outfit. The upper part is made of leather which is decorated with perforations around the edges. They originated in Scotland and Ireland as a cross country walking shoe as the perforations would allow water to drain out when the wearer crossed wet terrain like a bog. Ghillie brogues have no tongue and long laces that are tied around the calf; they are usually worn in this way as part of a highland dress outfit or by pipe bands. For more information about tying these ghillie laces, check out this video.
